I got this machine as a coffee (or more accurately) espresso machine for my house. I was fed up with the ‘barista’ type machines with the steam nozzles for making cappucinos as they were difficult to use and to clean, and in my house would not be used due to the time consumed in using them. Nespresso has created an excellent system of making a quick, proper coffee.

The coffee is much better than instant. However the capsules needed for the machine are slightly expensive (c.20-30p depending on type) however it is good coffee and you have to consider if you bought this coffee at a shop it would cost at least £1.50 if not more. Purists may also argue that using a traditional machine or one of the coffee presses might make better coffee, but I don’t have the time or inclination to go down that route.

The machine is simple enough. There are two automatic buttons which you can program with the amount of coffee that you want to put in a cup. Fill the tank with water (again a much simpler system than the traditional coffee machines you can get from other shops), put in a capsule, press the button and you have a good coffee. You can make volumes from espressos to full mugs, but note that if you run water through a capsule for a second espresso it tends to be a bit weaker. If you want you can even use this as a stand in for a kettle if it’s already powered up by just running water straight through.

The aerocinno mug that they give is also quite good. It is a magnetic whisk system for hot and cold milk so can make lattes or cappucinos effectively. You can even use it to whisk milk for a hot chocolate!

I chose this machine as it was the basic range of nespresso machines (i.e. also the cheapest), plus it was the automatic version (the manuals you need to hold the button down), and it came with the aerocinno accessory. There are other models which have stunning designs, and have other features, but they also come at a price – but could be more suitable for other people’s requirements.

Capsules need to be ordered direct from Nespresso, but they offer to give you a speciallly designed capsule order with your first order.

Overall I love this machine. I can press a button and have a coffee waiting for me after I get out of the shower. I would recommend this machine for those who want a good coffee once a day.
